The Master of Music: Jazz Studies Online program provides intensive experiences in jazz performance, composition, jazz arranging, style analysis, jazz history, and in exploring the constructional techniques for composition and improvisation. This program is for the aspiring musician who aspires to be successful as a jazz musician, performer, composer, and instructor. Graduates of Rowan’s Master of Music programs have gone on to major doctoral programs, performing careers, arts leadership positions, and careers as college professors and public school teachers. Rowan’s online programs are extremely popular due to their convenience and flexibility.

The Master of Music: Jazz Studies Online is a part-time program offered in an accelerated format. This degree requires the completion of 32 graduate semester hours or 11 courses. Each course is scheduled in eight-week modules with each week of work starting every Tuesday at 8:00a.m. and ending every Monday at 11:59p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

  • Music Theory and Music History placement exams the first week of classes (not admission bearing)
  • Total semester hours required for program completion: 32 s.h
  • Culminating Experience (Recital): a recital jury is only required under special circumstances
  • Oral Comprehensive Exam
  • Thesis Requirement: none

The following is a list of items required to begin the application process for the program. There may be additional actions or materials required for admission to the program. Upon receipt of the materials below, a representative from the Rowan Global Admissions Processing Office will contact you with confirmation or will indicate any missing items.

  • Completed Application Form
  • $65 (U.S.) non-refundable application fee
  • Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended (regardless of number of credits earned)
  • Minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Current professional resume
  • Two letters of recommendation

    • Applicants should submit their video audition two weeks in advance of the deadline
