Open Close

The Certificate of Graduate Study (C.O.G.S.) in Adapted Physical Activity at Rowan University supports students and practitioners in the fields of health and physical education, exercise science, personal training, orientation and mobility, special education, physical therapy, and occupational therapy to gain continuing education and certification in adapted physical activity.

This program prepares students to sit for national certification exams across three professional bodies. Choice of certification would depend on prior certifications and Bachelor’s level programs of study. There are currently no New Jersey state certifications in adapted physical activity, so national certification is the only viable option. The Certificate of Graduate Study in Adapted Physical Activity is designed to prepare students for the following exams:

  1. Adapted Physical Education National Standards Certified Adapted Physical Educator for those with physical education teaching certifications
  2. American College of Sports Medicine/ National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer (CIFT) for students who previously studied exercise science, occupational therapy, or physical therapy, or who have personal training certifications
  3. Blaze Sports Certified Adaptive Recreation & Sports Specialist for individuals who have no prior exercise science background.
