The Certificate of Graduate Study (C.O.G.S.) in Creative Writing will provide students with the opportunity to develop their voice, literary vision, and individual style through workshop settings. Students will learn to engage in a process of composition that, when combined with the development of a critical vocabulary, allows them to give, receive, and use criticism in their revisions. The courses completed for this certificate may be able to be applied to the required coursework in Rowan's Master of Arts in Writing. Students can use the coursework from this certificate and apply it toward the Master of Arts in Public Relations program.

The Certificate of Graduate Study (COGS) in Creative Writing is a part-time program that requires the completion of 9 graduate semester hours (3 courses) which are possible to complete in 3 to 4 consecutive semesters.

Upon receipt of the materials below, a representative from the Rowan Global Admissions Processing Office will contact you with confirmation or will indicate any missing items.

  • $65 (U.S.) non-refundable application fee
  • Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended (regardless of number of credits earned)
  • Current professional resume
  • Essay:

    • Topic: Describe the kind of writing you see yourself doing in your professional life or how you might use this program to advance your teaching career. Educational goals beyond the master's level, if applicable, are also relevant. Try to place your objectives within a context that includes your past experience. Especially given that this is a writing program, use the statement as an opportunity to demonstrate your writing skills
  • Two letters of recommendation
