Ranked as one of the top criminal justice schools by The Online Schools Report, Rowan University offers an M.A. in Criminal Justice that stands out in its ability to provide an excellent education for individuals seeking to impact criminal justice reform. Focused on both the past and present of the criminal justice system, students will complete the program with a well-rounded understanding of today's issues, and what research evidence tells us about the effectiveness of programs and policies aimed at preventing and controlling crime. Each class is taught by an experienced professor who understands what it takes to be successful in the profession.

The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Criminal Justice is a part-time program offered in an accelerated online format. It requires the completion of 30 graduate semester hours (10 courses) which are possible to complete in only 5 consecutive semesters.

The following courses make up the M.A. in Criminal Justice Online program. Each course is scheduled in 7 or 8 week modules with each week of work starting every Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. and ending every Monday at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

The following is a list of items required to begin the application process for the program. There may be additional action or materials required for admission to the program. Upon receipt of the materials below a representative from the Rowan Global Admissions Processing Office will contact you with confirmation or indicating any missing items.

  • Completed Application Form
  • $65 (U.S.) non-refundable application fee
  • Bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended (regardless of number of credits earned)
  • Current professional resume
  • Typewritten statement of professional objectives (Personal statements should be well developed essays that demonstrate your ability to write at the graduate level)
  • Two letters of recommendation (Academic References preferred)
  • Minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Submission of official GRE test results is highly recommended
  • It is highly recommended applicants have successfully completed an introductory class in Criminal Justice, Research Methods, or Statistics at the undergraduate level at an accredited institution.

Graduates with a criminal justice master’s degree from Rowan will be prepared for leadership positions in police, court and corrections agencies and research positions in public, private and non-profit research institutes.
