Prepare to become a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) through the Certificate of Graduate Study (COGS) in Wellness Coaching. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that, between 2014 and 2024, professional positions in Health Education will increase by 13%, which is considered above average increase in job opportunities. Increasingly, health education services are delivered via coaching, which is evidenced in the number of coaching jobs that are currently advertised.

In the southern NJ region, many health-care institutions are now hiring coaches specifically, using job titles such as Health Coach, Population Health Coach, and Wellness Coach. These institutions include Cooper Health System, Inspira Health System, Kennedy Health System, Capital Health System, Meridian Health System, Jersey Shore Medical Center, Mount Sinai Health System, and United Health Group. Other area organizations that hire wellness coaches include Independence Blue Cross and Blue Shield and several YMCAs in NJ. The National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) is a volunteer-driven organization with a 15-year history of researching best-practices in wellness coaching and working to establish a national standard of practice for wellness coaches. The National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches (NBHWC), in partnership with the National Board of Medical Examiners, offers a National Board Certification for Health and Wellness Coaching. This certification has become the expected qualification for professional wellness coaches nationally. The NBHWC offers formal Program Approval to academic preparation programs which meet its standards. Graduates of Approved programs are qualified to sit for the national certification exam upon graduation.

The COGS in Wellness Coaching is an Approved Health and Wellness Coach Training & Education Program by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC).

The COGS in Wellness Coaching may be completed within the required 30 credits of the MA in Wellness and Lifestyle Management program. Students may earn both the MA in Wellness and Lifestyle Management and the COGS in Wellness Coaching within the required 30 semester hours.
